Heidi Johnson-Young

Heidi’s role as Community Leadership Project Manager focuses on South Carolina’s Electric Co-Ops, facilitating education and advocacy, building relationships in the communities they serve, and connecting members with resources to self-advocate and become fully empowered leaders and decision-makers. She was moved to activism while a senior at the College of Charleston in 2007 by her hopes to see future generations of her family, and families like hers, continue the tradition of thriving in the area. Her professional background is in electoral politics, with nearly two decades of organizing, campaign management, and political consulting experience from which to draw. She resides with her family in the Lowcountry, where she was raised, and considers its beaches a sacred space. Heidi enjoys spending time with her children, frequenting the library, thrifting, painting, DIY-ing, series bingeing, weekend trips (especially in the Gullah-Geechee corridor), meandering through museums and art galleries, and cooking at home.
